Director of Software Engineering & Software Architect
Experience
Sensonix Inc. (a Banner Engineering company) — Director of Software Engineering
2021 – 2026- Promoted from Principal Software Architect to Director of Software Engineering (2025), retaining architecture-level ownership of the platform alongside the expanded scope.
- Architected and led the replatform of the core IIoT SaaS product off a monolithic C# application onto a Node.js + PostgreSQL + Kubernetes microservices architecture, paired with a full React frontend rebuild for long-term maintainability.
- Introduced testing, DevOps, event sourcing, and traffic-management practices to the SaaS platform.
- Hired, trained, and managed a team of junior through senior developers and designers, growing engineering from roughly 3 to 8 people.
- Directed development across cloud, desktop, and embedded software for the product line, owning design and architecture decisions.
- Extended beyond engineering: built the customer support process, stood up a product management pipeline for feature planning and direct customer communication, and worked with sales and marketing on channel strategy and pricing.
- Designed and prototyped an IoT data lake — stream processing and OLAP databases in partnership with AWS — to bring new customer capabilities to the platform.
- Set up AI-assisted engineering practices: spec-driven development workflows, sandboxed devcontainer environments for safe AI code execution, and curated context stores for coding agents — became the team's go-to resource on AI-assisted development, feeding into a company-wide AI initiative.
- Designed a next-generation Linux-based IIoT hub: custom PCB for peripherals/power around a Raspberry Pi CM5, cleanly separating device connectivity (any industrial protocol) from use-case software (an app-store model covering vibration monitoring, steam-trap monitoring, OEE, dashboarding, and alarming), backed by a custom real-time data backbone ("Signal Server").
Buildlabs LLC — Chief Technology Officer
2019 – 2021- Provided technical and operational vision for a software services agency pairing bootcamp-trained junior developers with senior "Developmentors" on live client projects.
- Grew the company from 1 client and 3 part-time employees to roughly $1.2M/year in revenue, 8 full-time and 3 part-time staff, and 2 Developmentors.
- Delivered dozens of client projects spanning SaaS products, WordPress platforms, mobile apps, and website/product design.
- Designed, implemented, and ran a structured mentorship program converting bootcamp graduates into functional full-stack developers.
- Built the hiring pipeline and criteria used to bring on new engineering talent.
- Owned sales support, architecture, and delivery across the client portfolio.
Trilogy — Lead Instructor
2018 – 2019- Taught full-stack web development — HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, MySQL, MongoDB, React, Passport, Express, Python — to 100+ continuing-education students.
- Mentored junior developers and teaching assistants on technical growth and career goals.
- Project-managed dozens of short-term student projects from scope to delivery.
BMC Software Inc. — Full Stack Web Engineer (started as PC Technician)
2012 – 2018- Progressed from PC/IT support technician to a small "emerging technologies" team piloting and dog-fooding BMC's own products internally.
- Designed and built "PC Refresh," a self-initiated full-stack web app managing computer inventory and end-of-life refresh across all of BMC's international offices — from device selection through setup/migration guidance to automatic recycling pickup tickets — cutting technician time spent by two-thirds.
- Built the corporate macOS deployment image, automating software installation, domain join, and JAMF enrollment for a zero-touch setup experience.
- Built automation frameworks for machine-data integration and automatic email notifications.
Selected side projects
2010 – Present- Full-stack MLS-connected appraisal app (AWS, Node/Express, React/Redux) generating visualizations and printable reports.
- Python/Octave-based machine learning experimentation.
- "DavIO" — a Raspberry Pi–based communication system built for a special-needs adult, with a Python/Node.js interface.
